Gene Wilder was a very special actor. He made people laugh in movies like Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory and Blazing Saddles. Now, a new documentary about him called Remembering Gene Wilder is coming to Netflix in the US in June 2024.
The documentary, called Remembering Gene Wilder, first showed at film festivals in 2023. Then, in March 2024, it was available to watch at home. But now, it’s going to be on Netflix starting June 13th, 2024. We’re not sure if people in other countries can watch it yet.
Ron Frank, a director who won a Peabody award, made the documentary. He’s done other documentaries before, like When Comedy Went to School in 2013. This one is all about Gene Wilder’s life. It uses his own words from his books, interviews with his friends, and old videos to show us what his life was like. It also talks about how he fought against Alzheimer’s disease.
In the documentary, we hear from some famous people who knew Gene Wilder, like Alan Alda, Mel Brooks, and Harry Connick Jr. There are also interviews with Carol Kane, Ben Mankiewicz, Erick McCormack, Richard Pryor, and Peter Ostrum.
People who watched Remembering Gene Wilder really liked it. A website called JoBlo said it was “moving” and a “loving tribute.” On another website called IMDb, it got a score of 8.0 out of 10.
This is the second big documentary from a company called Kino Lorber to come to Netflix recently. They got the rights to Remembering Gene Wilder in January.
Last year, Netflix showed another documentary called Radical Wolfe about a writer named Tom Wolfe. Kino Lorber is getting more popular, and they even have their own streaming service now with over 4,000 movies.
