Netflix’s new live-action series “One Piece” is breaking records! Fans love it, and it’s been watched by millions of people.
A Star-Studded Cast
The series stars Mackenyu Arata as Roronoa Zoro, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, Emily Rudd as Nami, and Taz Skylar as Sanji. They have done an amazing job bringing these beloved characters to life.
Top of the Charts
Netflix often keeps its viewing numbers secret, but not this time. “One Piece” has topped the charts in 2023, according to Giant Freakin Robot. It was watched nearly 72 million times in the second half of the year. This means it beat other popular shows like “Lupin,” “Sex Education,” and “The Witcher” Season 3.
A Late Start
What’s really impressive is that “One Piece” started streaming on August 31. It still managed to get more views than other shows that had a two-month head start. The closest competitor was “Who Is Erin Carter?” with just over 50 million views.
A Huge Hit
This success isn’t too surprising. “One Piece” is one of Netflix’s biggest projects of 2023. Anime fans everywhere rushed to watch it. The original “One Piece” anime has more than 1,000 episodes, so this live-action version makes it easier for new fans to enjoy the story.
Breaking the Curse of Live-Action Anime
Many live-action versions of anime have not done well. “Dragon Ball Z,” “Death Note,” and “Cowboy Bebop” are examples. When Netflix announced their “One Piece” project, fans were worried. But Netflix proved everyone wrong with an 85% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
More to Come
With 71.6 million views in less than six months, “One Piece” shows it has room to grow. Fans hope the second season will have an even bigger budget. This could mean more exciting episodes and amazing special effects.
Season 2 on the Way
We don’t know yet when the second season will come out. However, insiders say production might start in the summer of 2024. If that’s true, we might see the next adventures of Luffy and the Straw Hat crew in 2025. For now, fans can keep enjoying the first season while waiting for more news.
