The San-Ti aliens may not arrive on Earth for another 400 years. But fans of the “3 Body Problem” series don’t have to wait that long for more episodes.

The mind-bending sci-fi drama will return with new episodes on Netflix. The show is made by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss (Game of Thrones) and Alexander Woo (The Terror, True Blood). They will write and produce the new episodes too.

“We’re thrilled to continue this story,” said Benioff, Weiss, and Woo. “Ever since we read the last page of Cixin Liu’s books, we hoped to bring the audience to the end of the universe with us. Here we go!”

This news was shared during Netflix’s Upfront presentation in New York City. Netflix’s chief content officer, Bela Bajaria, said the show will cover the full journey of the saga. Details about the number of seasons and episodes will be revealed later.

“The 3 Body Problem will reach new heights,” said Peter Friedlander, Vice President of Scripted Series at Netflix. “The team of Benioff, Weiss, and Woo have an amazing vision. We, like the fans, can’t wait to see what they create next.”

Even though Netflix hasn’t shared an official synopsis for 3 Body Problem Season 2, the show-runners have dropped some exciting hints.

A lot has already been said about the future of the show. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, David Benioff talked about a scene in the second season.

“At our first Comic-Con [for Game of Thrones], someone asked if we’re going to get a second season,” Benioff recalled. “I remember saying there’s a scene that would happen in season three — I didn’t even want to name it, but ‘RW, for people who know — if we can get there, I think we’re going to be OK. And there’s a scene in the second season [of 3 Body Problem] that I feel is — it’s not the Judgment Day scene [in season one] — it’s one that happens in the second season … things wildly escape, and there’s one scene, if we get to it, we’re golden — like when we got to the Red Wedding on Thrones.”

Benioff also shared his thoughts on Liu Cixin’s trilogy and what a second season would mean. “It’s something we’ve talked about with the Netflix guys, too. Liu Cixin’s created this indelible trilogy and the books just get better for me. The second book is far better than the first, and the third book just completely blew my mind. The story just gets more and more ambitious as it goes, and it takes a huge leap in book two. So I feel like if we survive to the second season, we’re going to be in a good place.”

Fans can look forward to more intense and epic moments as the story continues to unfold. Stay tuned for more updates on “3 Body Problem” Season 2.

When Can We Expect "3 Body Problem Season 2" to Release on Netflix?

Filming for “3 Body Problem” began years ago. Production for Season 1 started in early November 2021 and finished in September 2022. This means there was a gap of 28 months between the start of filming and the release of Season 1 on Netflix. COVID-19 likely caused some delays, but the show is a big production.

The second book in the series is even more ambitious than the first. This could mean that Season 2 might take longer to produce, but it’s not certain yet.

Because of these factors, subscribers might have to wait until 2026 for “3 Body Problem” Season 2. A 2025 release is possible if production starts quickly, but it might not happen.

Fans will need to be patient, but the wait promises to be worth it for the next thrilling chapter in this epic saga.
