Let’s travel back in time to the groovy 1970s with Netflix’s new cartoon version of ‘Good Times’! It’s like bringing a classic back to life. The original show was made by a super cool person named Norman Lear a long time ago, and now they’re making it into a cartoon.
The new episodes will start on April 12, 2024, and consist of 10 episodes. That’s when we get to meet all the characters again! They’ll sound just like the actors J.B. Smoove, Yvette Nicole Brown, Jay Pharoah, Marsai Martin, Gerald “Slink” Johnson, and Rashida “Sheedz” Olayiwola and have given their voices to make this animated reboot amazing.
Even though Norman Lear isn’t with us anymore, his ideas still make the cartoon awesome. and he will be credited as executive producer under the production banner ACT III. Plot of the 'Good Times' 2024
Good Times is about a black family (Evan’s family) who lives in apartment 17C in the south side of Chicago. They try to manage their expenses while keeping the happy and peaceful atmosphere within their family’s daily needs. You will see them standing up together for each other, laughing together, while pushing the boundaries to make it a joyful cartoon series. Source: Netflix.
In an interview with Netflix, Shepard said
“Each episode actually has a theme to it that can apply to everyone. Expect to see frank and funny conversations about elections, first periods, poverty, women’s empowerment, coded bias, and technology. As Shepard said, the show is “a universal conversation that we’re able to have with this beautiful family [who] come into your homes. And while we’re having it, we make you laugh, and we make you smile.”.
Who are the lead characters in Good Times ?
Good Times is made around Evan’s Family. Reggie Evans and Beverly Evans are the heads of the family. They have a teenage artist son, Junior, and an activist daughter, Grey, along with an infant son, Dalvin, who is involved in drug dealing. We also have Beverly’s best friend, Lashes by Lisa who supports her in making the right decision for her family.
Voice cast in Good Times ?
J.B. Smoove has voiced the role of Reggie. Some of his previous credits are ‘Spider Man: Far from Home’, ‘The Polka King’, and ‘Crank Yankers’. His upcoming film ‘Musica‘ is yet to be released.
Yvette Nicole Brown will be voicing the role of Beverly. She also gave her voice in ‘Spider-Man: Maximum Venom’, ‘Wish’, and ‘Stan Lee’s Might 7’. ‘Among US’ and ‘The Family Business: New Orleans’ are yet to be released.
Jay Pharoh has given her voice to the character Junior and Marsai Martin will be playing the role of Grey. Marsai Martin’s previous credits are ‘Paw Patrol: The Movie’ and ”Sprit Untamed’ and her upcoming movie is ‘G20‘.
Slink Johnson voices the infant son, Dalvin. and he was the main cast member in ‘Black Jesus (2014–2019)’. Rashida “Sheedz” Olayiwola voices Lashes by Lisa in this series.
