Netflix has just released the first teaser for the highly anticipated sequel in the Monster series, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. If you thought the first season was intense, get ready for another chilling ride.
In the teaser, we see two men approaching a large mansion. They carry weapons as they enter the house. Suddenly, the screen goes black, and we hear two gunshots. It’s a suspenseful start that hints at the drama to come. Netflix has announced that the series will be available worldwide on Thursday, September 19.
This second installment is part of the Monster anthology series created by American Horror Story’s Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan. It focuses on the shocking true crime story of Lyle and Erik Menendez. The Menendez brothers were convicted of murdering their parents in 1996, and they are both still in prison today.
Netflix’s official description of the series says, “While the prosecution argued they were seeking to inherit their family fortune, the brothers claimed that their actions stemmed out of fear from a lifetime of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse at the hands of their parents.
Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story dives into the historic case that took the world by storm, paved the way for audiences’ modern-day fascination with true crime, and in return asks those audiences: Who are the real monsters?”
The Monster series began in 2022 with Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, starring Evan Peters as the infamous serial killer. The show was a hit, despite some controversy, and even earned Peters a Golden Globe Award.
In this new season, Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch star as Lyle and Erik Menendez. The cast also includes Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny as the brothers’ parents, José and Mary Louise ‘Kitty’ Menendez, along with Nathan Lane, Ari Graynor, Leslie Grossman, and Dallas Roberts.
