Get ready to cheer because a new basketball comedy is dribbling its way to your screens! Netflix has officially confirmed the title and release window for its upcoming series, now known as “Running Point,” starring the one and only Kate Hudson.

This comedy, first announced to be in the works back in June 2021, has been eagerly anticipated by fans. It wasn’t until January 2024 that Kate Hudson signed on, and shortly after, the rest of the stellar cast was unveiled at the end of February.

With 10 episodes lined up, Netflix is teaming up again with Mindy Kaling, known for her smash-hit series “Never Have I Ever.” The project, filmed in Los Angeles, kicked off in late February 2024 and is set to wrap up this week. James Ponsoldt has directed the first two episodes, promising viewers an exciting start to this comedic slam dunk.

The series “Running Point” is all about Isla, who’s the only sister in a family full of brothers. She’s got big dreams, but people often overlook her. When her brother has to step down from being the boss of the Los Angeles Waves basketball team, Isla gets the job instead.

Now, she’s got to show everyone that she’s the right person for the role. Her brothers, the big bosses, and even the sports world are all doubting her. But Isla is determined to prove them wrong, especially in a world where men usually call the shots. Watch as Isla takes on the challenges and tries to make her mark in the world of sports!

Cast members in Running Point

In “Running Point,” you’ll see Brenda Song as Ali Lee, who’s like the big boss’s right hand person at the Waves. Then, there’s Scott MacArthur playing Ness Gordon, one of Isla’s brothers, and Drew Tarver as Sandy, her other brother who handles money stuff for the team.

Roberto Sanchez plays Stephen Ramirez, who’s really serious and in charge of the big decisions. Fabrizio Guido is Jackie Moreno, who sells popcorn at the stadium where the Waves play. Chet Hanks is Travis Bugg, the star player of the team.

And don’t forget Toby Sandeman as Marcus Winfield, one of the best players for the Waves, and Keyla Monterroso Mejia as Ana Moreno, who’s friends with Jackie. With this awesome cast, “Running Point” is sure to be a slam dunk!

“Running Point” is made by a team of cool creators! Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen are the writers and executive producers. Stassen will be in charge of running the show.

Then, we have Jeanie Buss and Linda Rambis from the Los Angeles Lakers team as executive producers too. Kate Hudson and Howard Klein are also executive producers, and Jordan Rambis helps make the show happen as a producer. With these awesome creators, “Running Point” is going to be super fun!
